Mel is an independent company director, following senior management roles in financial services, most recently in governance, with an emphasis on protecting investor interests. Previously, Mel was with the Financial Markets Authority where she held leadership roles implementing the new regulation of financial advisers and licensing market participants under the Financial Markets Conduct Act. These included crowd funders, peer to peer lenders, derivatives issuers, discretionary investment management service providers and managed investment scheme managers.
Mel also has over 20 years’ experience in the institutional investment and banking sectors where she has held leadership roles, including in risk and compliance. Mel is a current director of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākai Whai Maia, Chair of Centre for Social Impact and a trustee of Foundation North and Auckland Foundation. She also chairs the Nominating Committees for the Guardians of New Zealand Super Fund and Waikato-Tainui Group Investment Committee.
She is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors, an Accredited Investment Fiduciary and has degrees in Business (Masters), Economics and Japanese.
